Babak Shokrian, independent film director, became enamored with the life of a grape farmer. He purchased Verna's Vineyard from Mellville Winery in 2013, with the desire to grow world class wine grapes.

For his debut estate Pinot Noir, Viognier and Syrah wines, he saught the talents of Drake Whitcraft, second generation winemaker for Whitcraft Winery, and Morgan Clendenen, The Queen of California Viognier.
